The Crispiest Apple Crisp

Were at the end of September, With October just around the corner, and those chili, cold days where you want to just cuddle on the couch with a cup of your favorite, coffee, and a warm snack,or dessert to go with it. Well I have the perfect recipe for you, Its called The Crispiest Apple Crisp.
I had a basket full of apples,  my dad had brought me from the market because even he loves my sweetest desserts. So I thought of making a Apple Pie, but while I was checking a page on facebook, that had the yummiest recipes ever.. I happened to find a recipe for The Best Apple Crisp, and I thought Oh My God! I have to give this a try So i went ahead and followed a foodie friend Ashley's  recipe on Wishes & Dishes and believe it or not it was the most delicious, warmest, comforting, apple crisp I had ever tasted! (You can also check out her site on the link above for amazing recipes)

So I named it the Crispiest Apple Crisp
Because it was so darn good crispy.
The apple crisp is a layered of apples coated in cinnamon and sugar, with a crispy topping made out of all purpose flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, oats, butter, and nuts.
while baking you have the whole house full of sweet, cinnamon, apple flavor streaming all over the place.
So pull up your sleeves, and put all those apples that are laying in your fruit baskets to work
and get ready for The Crispiest Apple Crisp Ever!!

prep time 15 min
cook time 55-60 min
oven 350
Filling: 5 to 6 medium-size apples, peeled, cored and cut into 1/4-inch slices. (About 7.5 cups)
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
1.5 teaspoon cinnamon

1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/3 cups lightly packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 stick unsalted butter, well-softened or 1/4 cup of cooking oil
2/3 cup finely chopped pecans (optional)
1/3 cup quick oats

Preheat the oven to 350. Generously grease an 8×8 baking pan with butter.

Place a layer of apple slices in the bottom  of the pan and dust with sugar/cinnamon mixture.

Continue layering  apples and dusting with cinnamon/sugar until it is all used up.  Toss the apple  mixture until evenly coated in cinnamon sugar. The apples should be just  about to the top of the pan (they will cook down).
For the topping, place the flour, brown sugar, nuts, cinnamon and  oats in a large bowl and stir well with a wooden spoon.
Work the butter or oil  into the mixture with your fingertips until evenly distributed.  Take  one full handful of the topping and toss it into the sugared apple  mixture.   Spread the rest of the topping evenly over the apples.

Bake the crisp in the dish on a baking sheet on the center oven rack  until the topping is crunchy and the apples are bubbling — about 55-60 minutes.
( checking frequently every 10-15 min)
I put it under the broiler for about 3-5 min, but be careful it doesn't burn
Enjoy warm, or cold...
I served the apple crisp to my kids with a glass of cold milk, and my hubby and I had ours with vanilla ice cream:)
Let me know how it turns out, and don't forget to follow/like us on facebook.
