Masoor Daal with Desi Ghee


Masoor Daal is one of my favorite lentil dish.Its a simple dish yet so tasty and fulfilling. Masoor Daal is usually served with rice, one or more vegetable dishes,and plain yogurt but i like to have my daal with flour tortillas,and Desi ghee. Here is my quick recipe.
Ingredients serves 6-8
1 1/2 cup masoor daal rinsed and soaked
6 cups of water
2 tbs olive oil
2 tomatoes chopped
1 tbs salt
1 tbs red chili pepper
1 tbs turmeric
1 tbs ginger garlic paste
1 tbs cumin crushed
1 tbs dry cilantro
2 green chili peppers
fresh cilantro for garnish
2 tbs Desi ghee
Method:
Heat oil in pan add ginger garlic paste and fry until light brown, then add in tomatoes,chili peppers, salt, pepper, turmeric, and cilantro. Cover and cook for 5-10 min.Then add in your washed pre-soaked daal. Stir and cook for 5 min then add in the water, Cover and cook for  about 10-15 min.
Once you see that the daal is soft enough and the gravy becomes nice and thick, Garnish with fresh cilantro, and crushed cumin.Serve with Desi ghee topping, and your favorite rice, or naan.

  1. Hi Naz just a few quick questions how long do you soak for? What gas heat? And do you mean teaspoons or tablespoons? Thanks

    1. Hi there, so sorry for the late reply...Soak the daal for about 15-20 minutes prior to cooking. and cook on high heat once the daal is In the Tarka Mixture, then lower flame to medium.. and yes I mean Teaspoons... hope this helps... Naz
